Spokane Transit’s Wellesley proposal would keep Route 33’s alignment between Spokane Falls Community College and Spokane Community College while changing the stops riders use along the way. The September 30 draft lays out the proposed corridor improvements. [1]
STA’s October board agenda scheduled action on the plan for Nov. 19, 2026. [2]
Better stops, with some consolidation
The staff report prepared for the October board meeting identifies four proposed groups of work:
- Station improvements at seven stops.
- Ten enhanced stops with shelters.
- New shelters at eleven stops.
- Consolidation or closure of twelve stops. [3]
Those are proposed actions, subject to further refinement and City review or approval. The staff report says two pairs of stops were recommended for retention after staff reassessed crossings, accessibility and spacing. [3]
STA calls the intended service High Performance Transit: frequent, two-way, all-day routes supported by investments in reliability and passenger amenities. For Wellesley, the agency identifies shelter and shade as a pressing need. [4]
The draft does not propose an immediate increase in bus frequency. It calls for evaluating whether existing 15-minute service could extend to more times of day. Riders can inspect individual locations in Table 14 of the draft plan, beginning on printed page 33. [1]
What comes next
STA’s project page places design and construction in a developing 2027–2030 phase, including engineering, property or easement acquisition and installation of amenities. The schedule is still being developed. [4]
The October agenda directs comments on the plan to Emily Poole at epoole@spokanetransit.com and identifies Nov. 19 for board action. Readers can review the project materials and check the Nov. 19 meeting page as that decision approaches. [2][4]
