Old Trails Fire property owners whose home insurance does not cover an asbestos survey can request city-paid surveying following unanimous Spokane City Council approval Wednesday, Oct. 14.[1][2]

The 7–0 vote on Resolution 2026-0074 authorized contracts with qualified surveyors without another council vote. That clears the approval condition in the city's Oct. 9 announcement of the assistance.[1][2]

Owners can use the city's online asbestos survey request form to seek a survey or reimbursement. Those who have already paid for a survey that their insurer did not pay or reimburse can request up to $1,600. The form provides separate options for a needed survey and a completed survey, and asks for the property's address and the owner's contact information.[3]

For help with the request, the city lists rebuildspokane@spokanecity.org.[3]

The next announced recovery meeting is at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Salk Middle School, 6411 N. Alberta. City staff and community partners are scheduled to discuss wildfire housing assistance, asbestos surveying, rebuilding rules, temporary housing on affected properties and free second opinions on contractor or development quotes.[2]
