Spokane Transit Authority posted a new public notice on October 18, 2026, for the Division Street Bus Rapid Transit project, opening a comment period that runs until 5 p.m. on November 2, 2026.[1]
The notice says STA issued a State Environmental Policy Act determination of nonsignificance for the proposal, meaning the agency concluded the project would not require an environmental impact statement. STA also says it will not act on the proposal for 14 days from the date of issuance.[1]
For Spokane riders and people along the corridor, this is an environmental review step, not a final construction approval. STA’s notice describes the proposal as upgrading the existing Route 25 corridor into a bus rapid transit line stretching about 10 miles from downtown Spokane to the future Mead Transit Center near U.S. 395 and Farwell Road, with work in the city and parts of unincorporated Spokane County.[1] The same notice says the project would include about 43 BRT stations, roadway and operational changes, zero-emission buses, and pedestrian, bicycle, and ADA-access improvements.[1]
Residents who want to comment on the environmental determination can use the mailing address or email for Community Development Director Brian Jennings listed in the notice.[1] For broader project context, STA’s Division Street BRT page says Phase 1 is planned between downtown Spokane and the Hastings Park & Ride and would add features such as more frequent service, enhanced stations, and business-access-and-transit lanes on the Division/Ruby couplet.[2]
If you ride Route 25 or live near Division, Ruby, Hastings, or Farwell, this is the current official window to weigh in on STA’s environmental finding before the agency takes its next step.[1]
